International Seminar: Alliance for Nature Conservation

Our Executive President, Francisca Cortés Solari, participated as a speaker at the International Seminar “Public-Private Alliance for Nature Conservation,” held this past May 27th and 28th at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

The event—organized by the Biodiversity and Protected Areas Service and the Ministry of the Environment, alongside various international organizations—was a great opportunity to converse, learn, and connect perspectives on one of the great challenges of our time: how to mobilize resources, strengthen capacities, and build alliances to advance toward effective nature conservation.

In this space, she shared reflections on private conservation and environmental philanthropy that raise urgent questions:

The triple crisis—climate, biodiversity, and pollution—is not just environmental; it is also economic. Today, barely 2% of global philanthropic funds are allocated to conservation or climate change.

Achieving the 30×30 target requires nearly 700 billion dollars a year, a challenge that cannot fall solely on the State.

Moving forward entails new forms of collaboration, more flexible structures, and public policies that enable these efforts, while also considering the multiple priorities of the public sector.

Thanks to those who made this space for dialogue possible, and to those who continue to drive new ways of doing conservation.
