Within the frame of the SDGs Summit that will take place on September 18th and 19th in New York City, Philanthropy Cortés Solari, together with the IUCN and the Velux Foundation, organize the Conference “CHALLENGES AND PROGRESS OF ENVIRONMENTAL PHILANTHROPY AS A KEY PLAYER FOR THE SDGS ACHIEVEMENT”, as one of the initiatives that will take place at the United Nations Central Office in New York, on September 17th.
This event seeks to promote a reflection on the role of philanthropy in achieving the SDGs related to the oceans, and specifically its strengths and weaknesses in order to enhance the work developed by the public sector, the private sector and civil society in The matter.
Although the ocean is vital to our human survival, OECD studies indicate that SDG 14 has only managed to capture just 4% of philanthropic resources, compared to SDG 1 (Poverty) or SDG 17 (Cooperation). , which both capture more than 15% of the world’s philanthropic resources.
This reflects both the urgency to make SDG 14 visible in the philanthropic world, as well as the need to continue pushing the development of innovative financial instruments for the sustainable economy of the oceans, such as blue bonds, debt-for-ocean swaps, the development of risk management tools (such as parametric insurance for coral reefs in Central America) or the creation of impact investment funds.
Philanthropic actions can be decisive, as private actions of public utility, capable of mobilizing philanthropic resources as philanthropic assets that can have an impact on this SDG, directly or indirectly.
In this context, the Challenges and progress of Environmental Philanthropy event as a key player for the SDGS achievement, seeks to reflect the role of Philanthropy and Philanthropists in their ability to support the SDGs, directly or indirectly, specifically SDG 14, analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the sector in this area.
